Welcome to Berkshire Green

ban on plastic and sytrofoam

Berkshire Green is a small, ad hoc group of citizens from Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Our aim is to eliminate the toxic, non-biodegradable and unnecessary Styrofoam food and beverage containers in the Berkshires.  We also mean to end the use of polluting, wasteful single-use plastic bags at retail stores.

In the city of Pittsfield, MA, we have already undertaken efforts to ban Styrofoam containers and single-use plastic bags via the Pittsfield City Council.  We have already banned styrofoam in Pittsfield!  In Williamstown, at the annual town hall meeting of 2015, a ban on styrofoam and single use plastic bags passed!  And Great Barrington recently banned single-use plastic bags in 2013, and banned styrofoam way back in 1990!

Cities and towns across the nation are banning Styrofoam in a groundswell, including Portland, Oregon; Honolulu, Hawaii; Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, California;  Minneapolis, Minnesota; Albany County, New York; Washington D.C.; New York, New York and dozens of other cities in California.
